Here are some honorable mentions for projects in EE4 that were exemplary! We received so many outstanding projects and had an extremely difficult time deciding the winners.
Note: The honorable mentions are not in any particular order.
Humane AI
Humane AI, a platform built by Aaditya Srivastava, helps empower victims of abuse, fraud, and danger. By using artificial intelligence, the platform facilitates swift communication between individuals and global authorities, providing a space for victims to report incidents openly or anonymously. Its dual-interface design, featuring morning and night modes, ensures user convenience.
A comprehensive reporting and insights platform, Humane AI also categorizes reports for authorities into open, in-progress, and closed cases, enhancing the efficiency of conflict resolution. The system employs advanced AI, utilizing vector analysis and Pinecone indexing, to assist authorities in processing the influx of reports intelligently. Notably, the platform stands out with an API gateway for authorized external parties to access relevant data, ensuring a sustainable business model.
There were notable challenges in creating a secure user experience, but Srivastava was able to surmount them. Specifically, the process of developing Humane.AI required lots of time and effort spent on debugging. Additionally, the AI tool would often hallucinate and provide imprecise answers. This hallucination issue was solved by using a vector storage database.
Ultimately, Humane AI's future involves continuous improvement, including the introduction of a multilingual chat feature for authorities to interact with victims across diverse linguistic backgrounds.

Clarify
Motivated by the challenges faced by overworked teachers and a shortage of tools in less digitally advanced settings, Clarify, built by Wangdrak Dorji aims to ease the burden of grading handwritten essays. In Bhutan, where 416 teachers resigned from January to May causing a teacher shortage, Clarify's primary goal is to combat teacher attrition by employing AI to make the grading process more manageable.
Clarify facilitates this goal by allowing users to upload images of handwritten essays or responses, which are then transcribed to digital text using optical character recognition. For essays, users input the essay topic, and leveraging Google's PaLM 2 language model, Clarify provides detailed feedback on topic relevance, grammar, and structure. In the case of responses, users supply the question and a reference answer for comparison.
Looking ahead, Clarify plans on integrating Google Cloud Vision to broaden language support, including Tibetan and Dzongkha. While the current model efficiently extracts Tibetan text, the expansion of large language models beyond English is still in development. The overarching objective is to support other languages and enable students and parents to access transcribed documents and feedback, fostering a more collaborative grading process.
