When whistleblowing apps come with the risk of facing societal abuse, Bhoomika Manot set out to create an app prototype that would provide a lifeline for victims in need. Drawing inspiration from these apps, CalcHelp was devised to enable individuals to call for help without fear of judgment or reprisal. With a clever disguise as a calculator, CalcHelp offers a password-protected interface, granting victims discreet access to essential resources and emergency assistance.
It encourages safety, youth protection—it's perfect!
CalcHelp's true functionality lies beneath its innocuous facade. By entering a customized equation and unlocking the app, victims gain access to a homepage where they can instantly contact their local Emergency Department. Leveraging location services, the app pinpoints the victim's whereabouts, providing crucial information to the authorities for prompt intervention. To expedite the response process further, a series of Yes or No questions are presented, enabling victims to quickly provide vital details.
For victims in a safe environment, CalcHelp offers an Incident Report page, allowing them to provide comprehensive information through open-ended questions. Equipped with these crucial details, law enforcement agencies gain a deeper understanding of each incident, fostering more effective investigations and aiding in the pursuit of justice. Additionally, the app's Resources page offers support beyond immediate assistance, providing mental health resources and information on legal help, empowering victims on their path to recovery.
CalcHelp was meticulously crafted by Bhoomika using the powerful app design platform—Figma. Leveraging Figma's intuitive interface and convenient plugins, such as Iconduck and Photos, Bhoomika Manot brought the app prototype to life, ensuring a user-friendly experience and visually engaging elements.
Developing CalcHelp presented unique challenges, primarily among them creating the perfect disguise to maximize security and discretion. After careful consideration, the cover of a calculator was chosen, offering a clever double meaning that simultaneously supports victims in mathematical problem-solving and provides a safety net for those in need.

The functional prototype of CalcHelp stands as an incredible accomplishment. EQ Hacks believes that it mirrors the needs of victims, incorporating key features such as Emergency Dial, Incident Reporting, History, and additional resources for mental health and legal assistance. With a firm focus on supporting survivors, CalcHelp is a definite and powerful tool to help individuals reclaim their safety and well-being.
Looking ahead, EQ Hacks sees CalcHelp launching into the market, relying on word-of-mouth promotion to ensure widespread accessibility. By ensuring victims always have a discreet and readily available means to seek help, CalcHelp has the potential to foster a safer society where individuals can break free from abuse and thrive.
